U8 Developmental League Dear U8 Players and Parents: We are excited to announce our U8 Spring schedule of “D-League” events. The focus of these events is purely developmental and highly encouraged for all players who are considering playing competitive soccer such as travel or club in the future. We’ll be visiting other local communities and other communities will be visiting us for these Sunday Game Days. This will be a great learning experience for our children. The Directors of Coaching, staff coaches, volunteer coaches and coordinators will be working together to create an environment that allows the game to be the teacher and will promote a safe, challenging and enjoyable experience. Other participating communities include….Avon Lake, Westlake and others. In order to PARTICIPATE, you must be an ASLA player on a current Rec. team who attends their team practices, PASS practices, and plays in their Saturday Rec. game each week. ie. Rec. practice and game participation is mandatory for you to participate in these Sunday games. We cannot adversely affect the Rec. program due to involvement in these supplemental games. The Spring Season will consist of the following: one (1) Avon Only Play Day, two (2) Academy Play Days and two (2) Festival Game Days for all interested U8 players. Avon Play Day is a session of soccer play for Avon players only. The event will end with refreshments/snacks provided for all those involved in the session. Academy Days are a 4v4 format using games with varying objectives to teach various aspects of the game. The objectives will include playing to wide goals, "make-it-take-it", possession to end line, playing to one goal, etc. There will be no subs and the players will play for a full hour (w/ intermittent breaks), no subs! Festival Days will be a standard 6v6 format on including referees, full sized goals and goalkeepers (ie. Friendly scrimmages vs other communities). This is the game format with which you are currently familiar. Teams will be created by randomly mixing players up each game. However, we will work to reduce the number of subs by setting up fields to accommodate all participants for the scheduled hour. Player Fees will be $35.00 per player which will cover Ref Fees for Festival Days, “D-League” jerseys and any other administrative costs that may be incurred throughout the organization process.
