All Parents and Coaches:

We would like to remind all parents and all coaches of the policy relating to our young referees involved in referee of the U6-U11 rec games.  Please be sure to take note and follow this policy.  

Avon Soccer has a ZERO TOLERANCE Policy as it relates to our young referees.  At no time shall any rec coach or any parent interact with the referees for the purpose of attempting to influence or change a call.  Do not "correct" the young referees.  Do not provide corrective action feedback to them at any time - period!  

They will not make every call 100% accurate each time and they will not call every foul.  I can promise you that not every professionally trained referee at the highest level of soccer makes accurate calls all the time either.  

At this level Which is more important -  getting the call right or proper/healthy development of our players and their self-confidence.  Avon Soccer rec referees are compromised of our young travel soccer players ages nine (9) and up.

Too many times we have witnessed coaches/parents yell comments to a young referee that their "ruling" was wrong or that they are not calling "enough" fouls.  

Those same players quickly QUIT as referees and lose interest in the game due to this "coach" putting their personal desire to WIN a rec soccer game or win a D-league event.  I have news for you.......we don't keep score.  Three years from now you likely won't remember that the game was even played........HOWEVER the young player may never forget YOU and how poorly you made them feel and how you embarrassed them on the field.

We received feedback on this opening weekend of rec soccer and how there were coaches yelling at referees or attempting to influence or change their calls.  If you think this message might be about you - IT PROBABLY IS!  STOP NOW!  All future feedback received regarding this type of "behavior" from adults involved with Avon Soccer will result in direct follow up by our ASLA board.  Appropriate action will be taken at that time to ensure this does not continue.

Although this message is being sent to ALL.  We firmly believe that the overwhelming majority of our coaches and involved parents follow this policy currently and for them this message is nothing more than an overall reminder and reinforcement of Avon Soccer policy.   

We encourage all parents of our young referees to follow up with a board or support member of Avon Soccer should they encounter this type of situation in the future.
